„To get there – Together“: WE MAKE OUR WAY

This year, the traditional Hike to Villa Denis (German: Uni-Villa-Wanderung, UVW) celebrates a premiere: for the first time, people from both campuses of the future Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) are hiking together.

From the starting points in Kaiserslautern and Landau, the UVW leads via Waldleiningen to Villa Denis in Frankenstein. Once there, the Park Fest awaits young and old with a colorful program that includes food and drink and live music.

All nature enthusiasts and hiking enthusiasts from the southern and western Palatinate area are invited to the event in addition to the members of the future RPTU.

Ambitious hikers are recommended to take the 26-kilometer route. Those who want to take it more leisurely but do not want to miss the beauty of nature, start at kilometer 13, with the second half of the hike from Waldleiningen. From Landau, there are transfer options to the 26-kilometer start in Kaiserslautern and the 13-kilometer start in Waldleiningen.

Start and meeting point

At 8:30 a.m. at UNISPORT Kaiserslautern there will be a small breakfast for all participants and the official welcome by Prof. Dr. Arnd Poetzsch-Heffter and Prof. Dr. Gabriele E. Schaumann, the designated double head of the RPTU. At 9 a.m. the starting signal for the hike will be given.

For hikers from Landau, there is a direct train connection from Landau main station (departure: 7:36 a.m.) to Kaiserslautern main station (arrival: 8:16 a.m.), from where the TUK campus can be reached by foot in about 20 minutes.

Hiking Route: Your choice

The first stage leads from Kaiserslautern over 13 km to Waldleiningen, where we arrive between 12 and 1 pm. After refreshments, the route continues for 13 more kilometers to Villa Denis. Estimated arrival time here is between 3 and 5 pm.

After arriving at the destination, the Diemerstein Park Fest awaits all hikers in the garden of Villa Denis. Of course, non-hikers are also welcome; there will even be a special children's program for the younger guests.

The hiking route in brief:

TU-Campus - Bremerhof - Humbergturm - small Humberg - Wolfskaut - Hungerbrunnen - upwards (white-red marking) to the B48 - downwards to Waldleiningen - Leinbachtal - upwards to the Hochstrasse (white-blue marking) - in eastern direction along "Hochstrasse" - Frankenstein castle - downwards to Frankenstein train station - past Landgasthaus Schlossberg into the Diemersteiner valley to Villa Denis.

The paths are well marked; at neuralgic points members of UNISPORT help.

The 26 km hike includes about 600 meters of elevation gain.

Half the way: Hike start in Waldleiningen, hike to Frankenstein

From Kaiserslautern, a shuttle will take you to Waldleiningen at noon, from where you can hike the rest of the way to Villa Denis. Besides, you have the possibility to take a shuttle from the train station in Hochspeyer to Waldleiningen. You can also reach the station in Hochspeyer by train from Landau.

Half the way: Hike TUK - Waldleiningen

If you run out of steam on the way, you can take a shuttle from Waldleiningen to the train station in Hochspeyer, from where you can take the train either directly to Frankenstein for the Park Fest at Villa Denis, or back to Kaiserslautern or Landau.

Travelling home from Frankenstein

You can start your journey home in all directions from Frankenstein station, which is close to Villa Denis.

EXTRA city bike / mountain bike tours

For those who prefer pedaling to lacing up their hiking boots, one of the guided bike tours is the perfect choice. Whether by mountain bike or city bike, the tours offered are about 20 to 30 kilometers and are designed to meet all requirements.

The meeting point for all bike tours is UNISPORT of TUK. The city bike tour starts there at 12:00. The mountain bike tour with medium difficulty starts at 11:00 a.m., and the more advanced mountain bikers will set out on their tour at 10:00 a.m.

Diemerstein Park Fest at the Villa Denis in Frankenstein

In the beautifully idyllic park of Villa Denis in Frankenstein, the traditional Park Fest with live music, coffee and cake as well as culinary delicacies will take place from 1 pm until nightfall. The fun program will include offers for young and old. In addition, the doors of Villa Denis will be open for viewing on this day.

We look forward to our hike and the Park Fest with you!
